(Instructor) Clinical Reasoning Assessment

Clinical Reasoning Assessment (CRA) is an assessment option in EMSTesting that helps students build the
clinical judgment skills now assessed on the National Registry certification examination. CRA presents
evolving, scenario-based questions so students can practice recognizing cues, weighing evidence, and making decisions the way they will be asked to on exam day.

A. Information:  

Currently available only for paramedics, the Clinical Reasoning Assessment has two parts. The first is a comprehensive adaptive test. The second is the clinical reasoning domain, which focuses on scenario-based components.

These scenario-based items allow students to apply their knowledge to realistic, evolving patient encounters, helping prepare them for real-world field calls, and the National Registry exam.

 

 

B. Enabling Clinical Reasoning Assessment:

 

1. Begin in your instructor role and click the dropdown for the class you want to enable CRA in.

2. Click the Edit Class icon.

3. Click the Adaptive tab.

4. Scroll down to the bottom section, Clinical Reasoning Assessment Settings. Select the Enable Clinical Reasoning Assessment dropdown and select Enabled. The default Clinical Reasoning Assessment Attempt Limit is 0, which is unlimited. If you would like to add a Clinical Reasoning Assessment Attempt Limit, change the number from 0 to the number you would like to limit your students to. 

 

5.  Save at the bottom. This will trigger a new button to appear in your class dropdown on your Instructor-Home, CRA Results. 

 

 

 

Clinical Reasoning Assessments must be enabled in order for CRA Results to be available.

2. Click the CRA Results icon.

3. On the Clinical Reasoning Assessments Results page, you will see a breakdown of your students' results. 

 

Class Summary: 

The class gives an overview of your students' results as a whole. 

  • Total Students: The total number of students in the class.
  • Attempted: The number of students who have taken tests.
  • Total Attempts: The total number of exam attempts taken by students.
  • Passed: The number of exams that received passing scores.
  • Pass Rate: The cumulative pass rate of the tests taken.
  • Average Score: The average score of the class as a whole. 

 

Domain Performance: 

This section breaks down your students' results by the different domains. 

 

Student Results: 

This section shows your students' results broken down by individual student. 

  • Attempts: The total number of tests the student has taken.
  • Passed: The total number of tests the student has passed.
  • Best Score: The student's best score across all their tests.
  • Domains: This shows the student's best score for each domain.
  • Last Attempted: The date the student last took an exam.
  • Status: This shows each student's status in relation to their CRA.
    • Not Started: The student has not taken any CRA tests.
    • In Progress: The student has taken CRA test(s), but has not passed yet.
    • Passed: The student has passed at least one CRA test. 

 

Exporting: 

These buttons allow you to export your classes' CRA results. Click Export to Excel to download an Excel file. Click Export to CSV to download a plain-text file that stores data in a table format.
