A Sims Value is an option in our program that allows Administrators to assign point differentials for skill attempts completed on non-live patients. Depending on the cohort setup, how Sims are treated will vary.
Sims Allowed affects only SMC23 paramedic cohorts. This option allows instructors to control which clinical skills can be performed in a simulation setting.
Sims Value:
By default, skills are set at a 1-to-1 ratio. This means that if a student performs a skill attempt with a live person, they would receive a point for the approved successful attempt. The same would apply if that skill were simulated (performed on a cadaver or on a low- or high-fidelity mannequin).
However, Administrators can adjust that default.
- 0: A Sim value that is set to 0 means that when a student's skill attempt is performed on a non-live patient it will not count towards the student's total skill requirements.
- >0: A Sim value of fewer than 1 means that students will have to perform multiple simulated attempts to receive a full credit point.
Sims Allowed:
Sim Value: This value determines the number that counts toward the minimum requirement. If more than this number of simulations are completed, the additional simulations will not count toward the skill requirement.
- 0: Setting your sim allowed number to zero will allow students to document a simulated skill attempt but will not count it toward their overall progress.
- 1-99: Allow students to document the number set of skill attempts that count toward their skill progress.
- Blank: Leaving the space blank means that skill attempts cannot be documented in a simulated setting.
