(Student) How to Take Adaptive Tests [Testing]

EMSTesting full access offers students the ability to take computer adaptive exams.  Access to this feature, the curriculums, and the units available are controlled by the school.

Taking Adaptive Exams:

1.  From your Student Homepage inside of EMSTesting, click on the name of your class and then select the Adaptive Testing button.

  • This will bring you to a page that will display any previously taken adaptive tests. For those tests, you can see your results by clicking the view results button to the right of each test. If this is your first time taking a test you will not see any tests listed here
  • If you want more information about reading your results page, click here. cat_test.png

2.  To take a new test you will click on the New Adaptive Test button in the top right portion of your screen.

  • Note: If your instructor has not turned on the ability to take adaptive tests in your class, you will see a warning page explaining this.  If you see this page, your best course of action is to reach out to your instructor.
  • Note: If you do not have the New Adaptive Test button, but do not see the warning message that your instructor has not enabled the computer adaptive testing, you have likely met your test limit (the total number of tests your instructor has set that you are allowed to take). If you encounter this scenario, it's best to contact your instructor.mceclip1.png

3.  Choose the parameters for your exam.

  • Select a Test Type: Select whether you want the Standard Test or a Timed Test.
    • Standard Test: no time limit, so you can start and stop your test and come back to it later.
    • Timed Test: this option allows you 30 minutes per module you are testing on.
  • Select a Curriculum: Select from Educational Standards, Module Topic Objective, or National Registry, depending on which curriculums your instructor has enabled modules for you to take adaptive tests on. If no module is enabled in a curriculum by your instructor, then that curriculum will not be displayed here.
  • Select a Question Bank: By default, this is set to our Platinum Education Validated Test Bank, but if your instructors have created questions and marked them CAT Enabled, you may also have access to the School Test Bank.  The number of questions available in our Platinum Education Validated Test Bank also changes based on the Curriculum you choose, as well as your Provider Level.  The number displayed is the potential question pool for that curriculum, not the number of questions you would be expected to answer on a single test.
  • Select a Module: Select if you would like to take a specific Module your instructor has enabled for the class or take a Comprehensive Adaptive Test covering all of the modules that have been enabled in that curriculum.
    • Choosing a specific Module: this will present you with approximately 30 questions associated with that Module.
    • Comprehensive test: this will present you with approximately 30 questions for each module enabled (grouping like material together).

4.  Once you have made your selections you can click the Start Test button to begin your test.
