(Student) Skill Cannot be found for Documentation

When you are filling out documentation, there are a few potential reasons a skill may be unavailable to you.

1. You have not entered an appropriate age for your patient or client.

Some skills in the program are tied to specific age groups. When entering a patient/client, enter the age before looking for skills.

  • Example: If you need to select the skill "Assessment of Adults", it will only appear when an adult age has been entered, like 33.

2. The skill has not been turned on for the cohort and/or class associated with the documentation.

If the skill you seek is unavailable, your instructor is the best person to discuss this issue with. They may have reasons why this skill has not been turned on (i.e. they want you to document the skill as part of another class or they may be planning on turning it on in the future.)

If your instructor believes the skill should be available but is not, they may enlist the assistance of a school administrator. It is essential to remember that the skills must be activated for both the cohort and the class.

3. Simulation Skills: Sims may not have been allowed for that skill.

If you are in a simulation and cannot find a skill it is possible that simulations have not been enabled for that skill. The best course of action in this situation is to reach out to your instructor so they can verify the cohort and class to determine if sims have been approved and enable them if necessary.

4. You have reached the max allowed for that skill.

Admins/Instructors can set maxes for skills. This created a cap to the number of times a skill can be documented. If you have documented this skill in the past, are unable to locate it now and none of the above apply, you may have reached the max allowed for that skill. The best course of action is to reach out to your instructor, and they can help you determine if that is the case.

5. The skill has been turned on for the cohort and class, but it has a prerequisite skill(s).

Some skills have prerequisite skills that must be completed before they can be documented, assuming the cohort’s settings are enforcing the sequencing. If the requirement has not been met, they will not appear in the dropdowns for selection or may appear with a lock icon.

If you want to check to see if a skill is currently locked, you can run a progress report on your cohort and class.
