When students review their class grades in EMSTesting or Platinum Tests, the program will display the grading method your class is using. You will see one of two options: Raw Score Grading or Cut Score Grading.
Raw Scores: Exams are graded by the total number of questions answered correctly out of the total number of questions on the exam. Often, the more familiar option is used. They are a straight percentage of the number of questions answered correctly.
- Example: A score of 9/10 would be 90%.
Cut Scores: Cut scores consider the test's difficulty and students' grades accordingly, providing a more accurate reflection of a student's competency levels.
-
Example:
- If your instructor assigns a test composed entirely of difficult questions, thereby creating a very difficult test, you would have to answer fewer questions correctly to achieve a passing score than if they were using Raw Score Grading.
- If your instructor selects only easy questions, creating a very easy test, you will have to answer more questions correctly to achieve a passing score than you would under Raw Score Grading.
