Schools can manage courses from the my.platinumed dashboard for all our products. Click on the grey and black Manage Courses call-out to show the Manage Course Listing area.

Your school will automatically be selected. Choose your profession and program, give your course a name, and enter start and end dates and description.

Note: If your school uses AccredAssist, then you will have the Actual Start Date and Actual End Date option as well.  This allows attrition to be correctly calculated and surveys to be sent out on time.  List the "regular" start and end date as anytime you would like students to be able to start enrolling and the end date as when you no longer want students to have access.  List the "actual" dates as when your course officially starts and ends.

Course Admins: Any instructors selected here will have full access to edit this course and manage enrollment. Only School Administrators can make changes to this list.

Note: An instructor account must be created first before that instructor will show in this drop-down.

Next you will see 3 check-boxes for options within your course:
Allow students to message each other: If you would like students in your school to message each other within our system, check this box.
Allow students to manually enroll in this course: If you want the system to automatically enroll students into the course you are creating (which is easier for the administrator), check this box. If you would like to accept students individually into your course, uncheck this box.

Allow instructors to manage student class enrollments: If you would like to allow all instructors to manage student class enrollments, check this box.

Click Save to continue. You will see the options you have selected so far, plus a Student Verification is Disabled button.

The Student Verification button is used if your school is using Verify Students for background checks. If you have a Verification Campaign Code for your school, click the student verification button and enter in your campaign code. This will require students in the course to go through Verify Students for a background check before entering the course.

Click Save to continue. You will see 5 tabs upon saving your new course.

Note Before Students Can Enroll: You must complete the setup for either EMSTesting or PlatinumTests. You must create at least one active (or future) class.

mc4.png

Curriculum: Please select a curriculum from the drop-down. (Applies to EMSTesting only)

Educational Standards: Educational Standards refer to the uniform document released by NHTSA around 2008. This is the curriculum that most EMS textbooks follow. Though it is standard in that it has the same category and topic for each level, it is not very specific, observable or measurable making it very difficult to truly standardize and use for specific, constructive feedback. Since it is what the textbook uses, we suggest that you create quizzes and tests using this curriculum when you first begin the program. When you finish a large section (Module) we would then suggest you turn on the adaptive testing portion of the website and use the corresponding Educational Standards to help acquaint students with the adaptive process.
Module, Topic, Objective: When students have less than adequate performances, Adaptive Testing can be designed to focus on the specific MTO where the students are weak. The MTO is the reference to the specific, observable, measurable objectives that were utilized prior to the release of the Educational Standards. It is also the objectives that the publishers chose to adopt for the most part where they could to build out the textbooks based on the new Educational Standards.
National Registry: As students near the completion of their program (and particularly during the Capstone portion of the Paramedic program) we would suggest you change the Adaptive Testing curriculum to the National Registry. The NR is based on the National Registry Practice Analysis and it is what the current National Registry Examinations should be based on.

After you have selected your options, click the Save button to continue.

Skill Minimums

The Skill Minimums are automatically set in Platinum Planner based on certification requirements for the program and the program type of the course. The number is a count of the minimum number of times a student must complete a skill in order to meet graduation requirements. Also, a student Peer or Instructor must review the documentation for these skill attempts. Completion of these skills will show in the student Progress Report.

Proficiency

If you would like the student to complete the skill more times than the minimum requirement (listed in the skill minimums above) in order to gain additional experience or confidence in a skill, you can add Proficiency values.

The Proficiency values are the number of successful attempts at a skill you would like to see a student complete out of a number of consecutive attempts. Ex: 3/5 or 3 out of 5 would suggest you would like to see the student successfully complete the skill 3 times out of 5 consecutive attempts before they(or you) might consider them proficient in the skill.

If a student completes the Proficiency benchmarks it will display in their Progress Report when clicking on an individual skill.

Sims Used/Sims Value

The Sims Value is automatically set based on requirements for the program/program type of the course .

Click Save to save your entered course information.
